Based on acquired experience, we came to a conclusion that in order to make a widespread use of robotic submerged arc welding it is necessary to develop a universal mobile unit consisting of a platform on which the robot, welding machine, flux recirculation system, robot controller and wire are installed. To provide a larger working area we have chosen the robot R-2000iB/125L. The total weight of the platform is 5 tons. The platform can be moved by a forklift or a crane. For the accurate fixation of the platform relative to the work piece positioner or a linear guide for the longitudinal movement of the platform, high-precision mounting couplings are provided. This system is a complete unit ready for use. The system is scalable and can be equipped with a positioner, turntable, roller bearings or linear guide. We have developed a universal software, which only needs to be configured for a specific task. All these enables us to say with confidence that we can carry out welding of any circumferential or longitudinal welds of all types of joints.
